Welcome to our Classroom BlogPortal!
The second layer consists of all the individual blogs of students. This could be a photoblog designed for sharing photographs, or a traditional blog.
Vineyard Christian School in Lewiston, ME requires that every student is taking a Bible class each year. For a high school student to graduate from VCS they need be enrolled in a Bible class every semester while attending the school. Practice of Christian Service is a class that meets the Bible credit. Although the name sounds like a chore, the goal of the class is for students to find their own passion to love the people of their community, both locally and globally. While we admit service as a chore or as an assignment can lack passion, or even be a bit Pharasaic, as an academic community we must challenge the students to step out of their comfort zone and practice, or experience service, and to truly learn comes from the first-hand experience. The required hours are 3 a month. At 17 students, collectively that can be 51 hours of student power in the community a month. Lewiston has New England's largest food bank that feeds over 200 families on a budget of just $55,000 a year. The class will add its own information on Poverty, Substance Abuse, and Domestic Violence throughout the year.
The books we are reading are Shane Claiborne's Irresistible Revolution and Eric Severson's The Least of These: Selected Readings in Christian History.
